In copper smelting, the operating temperature easily goes over 1500°C, sometimes reaching 1650°C in the reaction shaft or tuyere line.
Normal bricks just melt or lose their strength. This magnesia-chrome brick belongs to the basic refractory brick family. It works perfectly because magnesia has an extremely high melting point, and chrome ore adds incredible chemical stability.
When the iron-silica slag touches the brick surface, our mag chrome brick forms a solid spinel layer. This layer stops the liquid slag from eating into the deeper parts of the brick.
