Does your copper smelting reverberatory furnace use magnesia-chrome bricks? Let’s discuss magnesia-chrome bricks together.
Operating Conditions of a Copper Smelting Reverberatory Furnace

The reverberatory furnace operates at a long-term temperature of 1250–1550℃. The furnace interior is rich in slag containing Fe₃O₄, Cu₂O, FeO, etc. The slag is highly alkaline and easily penetrates into the refractory bricks.
During the charging process, the furnace will experience cooling of cold charge. Short-term cooling during copper tapping. Temporary shutdown for maintenance. And restarting at higher temperatures.
When the furnace is operating at full load for extended periods, the temperature in the slag line area is even higher. If the lining is not properly selected, bulging and swelling of the furnace walls and bottom can occur, hindering the copper tapping and slag discharge processes and causing slag accumulation and blockage.
Advantages and Characteristics of Magnesia-Chrome Bricks
Magnesia-chrome bricks have a refractoriness exceeding 1800℃. They do not melt themselves, separating the high-temperature liquid phase from the steel furnace shell, preventing high-temperature burn-through of the steel plate, copper and slag leakage, and ensuring safe continuous smelting production.

The Role of Magnesia-Chrome Bricks in Reverberatory Furnaces
Magnesia-chrome bricks are used as linings for the slag line, furnace bottom, and copper tapping opening in copper smelting reverberatory furnaces. They prevent the penetration and erosion of copper slag and magnetite, and resist the scouring and impact of copper matte and molten copper.
Its excellent thermal shock stability makes it suitable for the alternating hot and cold temperatures caused by charging and copper tapping. It is not prone to creep and deformation at high temperatures. And it is resistant to corrosion from sulfurized flue gas inside the furnace. Thus extending the furnace lining life, isolating the furnace shell from high-temperature melt, and ensuring continuous and stable smelting operation.
