Reverberatory furnaces are crucial thermal equipment in copper smelting processes. Many copper producers choose reverberatory furnaces for refining crude copper. Reverberatory furnaces have a simple structure and are easy to maintain.

Problems Encountered During Reverberatory Furnace Operation

1. Uneven Furnace Temperature Distribution

The operating temperature is typically between 1200℃ and 1450℃. Excessive temperature in the furnace head combustion zone can easily damage the furnace roof hanging bricks. Therefore, the appropriate selection of refractory materials is crucial for ensuring safe operation, extending furnace lining life, and reducing production costs.

2. Concentrated Loss at the Slag Line Area

The area where molten copper and slag alternately contact molten metal and oxide slag, resulting in a corrosion rate 2-3 times higher than in ordinary areas.

3. Potential Risk of Copper Leakage and Bulging

Liquid copper penetrates the interior of the refractory bricks, solidifies and expands at low temperatures, causing bulging and deformation of the furnace bottom, posing a risk of copper leakage.

Select materials according to the different operating conditions in different areas of the furnace.

1. Slag Line Area

Preferred: Directly bonded magnesia-chrome bricks / Electrofused rebonded magnesia-chrome bricks
High-chromium magnesia-chrome bricks are preferred, as the chromium component forms a dense protective layer, preventing slag penetration.

2. Furnace Bottom

Operating Conditions: Long-term immersion in liquid copper + refining slag; molten copper easily penetrates the brick pores, causing bulging and copper leakage after cooling.

Directly Bonded Magnesia-Chrome Bricks

Advantages: Dense, low porosity; extremely strong resistance to copper penetration; resistant to alkaline refining slag; high softening point under high-temperature load.
