Magnesia-chrome refractory bricks are used in converters to withstand severe chemical attack and extreme thermal shock during non-ferrous smelting processes.

In copper and nickel smelting, the converter environment is harsh, with temperature fluctuations often exceeding 1600°C. Ruitai Lianxin manufactures high-performance magnesia chrome lining materials directly in our factory to help smelting plants reduce maintenance downtime and extend furnace lifespans.
1.Why converters demand magnesia-chrome linings
The tuyere line and slag line of a converter face the most violent reactions. Standard fire bricks cannot survive the continuous erosion of acidic silica slag and heavy mechanical washing of molten metal.
Direct bonded magnesia chrome bricks solve this issue. By using high-purity dead burned magnesia and low-silica chrome concentrate, our workshop fires these bricks at ultra-high temperatures (above 1700°C).

This process forces a direct combination between the periclase and spinel phases. The result is a solid crystalline structure that provides excellent slag resistance and high-temperature volume stability.
2.Key technical parameters for smelter zones
Different parts of the converter require specific brick properties. For the most critical wear zones, like the mouth and tuyere area, fused rebonded magnesia chrome refractory bricks are preferred. Here are the practical parameters we control in our production line:
-
Bulk Density:
Maintained above 3.20 g/cm³ to prevent slag penetration.
-
Apparent Porosity:
Kept below 16% to minimize the contact area with corrosive molten copper.
-
Thermal Shock Resistance:
Tested to handle rapid heat cycles without spalling or cracking.

In addition to chrome-based linings, our factory also provides auxiliary products such as chrome corundum castables for repairs and magnesia alumina spinel bricks for transitional zones, ensuring complete kiln lining solutions.
3.Factory-direct quality control from Ruitai Lianxin
At Ruitai Lianxin, we do not just sell products; we manage the entire manufacturing process from raw material selection to final sorting. Every batch of magnesia chrome fire bricks undergoes strict physical and chemical testing before leaving the workshop.
We customize brick shapes and chemical compositions based on your specific converter size and operating slag chemistry. Contact us today to get direct factory quotes and workshop testing records.
