Chrome Corundum Refractory Brick
Chrome corundum fire bricks are high-end corundum-based special refractory bricks. Their main crystalline phase is α-Al₂O₃-Cr₂O₃ alumina-chromium oxide solid solution, with a purplish-red/rose-red appearance.
Based on production process, they are divided into two main categories:
Sintered Chrome Corundum Fire Bricks
With a chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) content of 1%~30%, these are made from tabular corundum/fused alumina, chromium oxide green, and chromium corundum clinker as raw materials. They are formed under high pressure and then sintered at temperatures above 1700℃. They have a moderate cost and the strongest versatility; the term "chromium corundum brick" generally refers to this type.
Cast Chrome Corundum Bricks
Molten and cast in an electric arc furnace at 2200℃, these bricks have higher density and corrosion resistance, and a higher Cr₂O₃ content. They are mostly used in extremely corrosive areas of glass kilns and have a higher selling price.
Characteristics of Chrome Corundum Refractory Brick
Super corrosion resistance
Cr₂O₃ has extremely low solubility in molten glass, alkaline slag, and gasified slag. It has extremely strong resistance to penetration of molten slag and is not prone to structural peeling. It is one of the best refractory materials to resist glass erosion.
Wear-resistant and anti-erosion
The dense structure can withstand high-temperature airflow and long-term erosion and wear of molten materials.
Stable high-temperature strength
Not easy to soften and deform under high temperatures, suitable for load-bearing and high-temperature load parts.
Strong chemical inertness
Resistant to alkali vapor, metal oxide erosion, and reducing atmosphere.
Application of Chrome Corundum Brick
Suitable for use in glass melting furnaces, including feeding inlet corners, kiln sills, flow channels, cover bricks, erosion zones on pool walls, target walls of small furnaces, and glass contact areas in fiberglass electric melting furnaces. It can replace AZS bricks for electric melting, offering a longer service life and fewer glass stone defects.
Suitable for linings, back linings, and slag outlets of water-coal slurry pressurized gasifiers and slag-oil gasifiers. It resists the strong corrosion of high-temperature gasification slag.
Suitable for use in molten iron pretreatment ladles, refining slag lines, tapping troughs, rolling mill heating furnace slides, and tapping platforms. It resists corrosion from molten steel and alkaline slag.
Suitable for linings of waste incinerators and hazardous waste rotary kilns. It withstands corrosion from complex acid and alkali ash slag.
Suitable for harsh operating conditions such as carbon black reactors and high-temperature erosion linings in ceramic kilns.
