Calcium-free Silica Brick
Calcium-free silica refractory bricks (often designated DES-99) are high-purity acidic silica refractory bricks. Their key difference from ordinary silica fire bricks lies in the fact that no lime (CaO) is added as a mineralizer throughout the entire batching process, and the calcium oxide impurity content is strictly controlled (CaO ≤ 0.05%). They are fired using a special calcium-free bonding system.
Characteristics of Calcium-free Silica Fire Brick
Superior Resistance to Alkali Vapor Erosion
Ordinary silica bricks contain approximately 2.5% CaO. At high temperatures, sodium and potassium alkali vapors in the kiln react with calcium to form a low-melting-point liquid phase, penetrating inward to form a modified layer, leading to rapid peeling and damage. Calcium-free silica bricks, lacking this thin calcium-silica phase, allow alkali to react only in trace amounts on the surface, almost completely penetrating the brick body. Suitable for high-alkali glass kilns with oxy-fuel combustion, extending service life by over 50%.
Excellent High-Temperature Dimensional Stability
With a lower overall thermal expansion rate, there is virtually no severe crystalline expansion or deformation above 600℃. Long-term high-temperature use prevents cracking and bulging. Reduced expansion joints during construction result in better kiln sealing and suitability for large precast arch structures.
Ultra-High Temperature Load Softening Point
With a softening temperature exceeding 1690℃, it exhibits strong high-temperature load-bearing capacity and creep resistance. Large-span load-bearing sections of the kiln roof remain undeformed over long periods, making it suitable for ultra-high temperature glass melting furnaces.
Low iron and pollution-free
With extremely low iron oxide content, it prevents iron precipitation during furnace use, avoiding contamination of colorless glass and high-grade float glass molten glass.
Better thermal shock resistance
Stronger resistance to rapid heating and cooling, allowing for high-temperature hot repairs without furnace interruption. Repaired glass is less prone to peeling or falling off.
