Applications of Magnesia-Chrome Bricks

Magnesia-chrome bricks are basic refractory materials composed primarily of periclase and chromite. They are primarily used in critical areas of high-temperature industrial kilns, particularly those exposed to corrosive slag and gases.

Core Applications

Magnesia-chrome bricks offer excellent resistance to high temperatures, slag corrosion and are primarily used in the following applications:

1.Non-ferrous metallurgy: Magnesia-chrome bricks are primarily used in non-ferrous metal smelting. The side walls and bottom of aluminum electrolysis cells are used in Magnesia-chrome bricks. Magnesia-chrome bricks are also used in the linings of converters and flash furnaces for smelting heavy metals, such as copper and nickel, resisting corrosion from high-temperature slag and chemical attack.

2.Cement Industry:  Magnesia-chrome bricks are suitable for the harsh environments of new dry-process cement kilns, primarily in the firing and transition zones of rotary cement kilns. Because magnesia-chrome bricks withstand temperatures exceeding 1600°C and resist corrosion from alkaline cement clinker slag.

3.Glass Industry: Magnesia-chrome bricks are used to protect key glass melting furnace structures to resist corrosion from molten glass and high-temperature volatiles.

4.Other High-Temperature Industries: Refractory materials are used in the lining of the high-temperature sections of waste incinerators to protect against corrosion from complex, hazardous gases and slag. Besides certain high-temperature chemical reactors also employ specialty refractories as corrosion- and high-temperature-resistant structural materials.

Application Advantages

1. Strong Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to alkaline slag is a core advantage, such as cement clinker and non-ferrous metal slag.

2. High-Temperature Resistance: Refractoriness can reach over 1750°C, maintaining structural stability in high-temperature environments.

3. Excellent Thermal Stability: Resistant to cracking or spalling during drastic temperature fluctuations.

Precautions

1. Environmental Restrictions:  Magnesia-chrome bricks may leach at high temperatures and under certain conditions. Otherwise magnesia-chrome bricks may pose a potential risk to the environment.

2. Suitable working conditions: Magnesia-chrome bricks are alkaline refractory materials and are not suitable for use in acidic slag environments. So refractory bricks should be selected based on the properties of the materials in the kiln.
